Access Broadband Cymru: What to Check First

A plain-English guide to checking whether a rural broadband upgrade might fit the Welsh Government Access Broadband Cymru scheme.

Eligibility comes first

Access Broadband Cymru is for eligible premises in Wales that cannot currently receive a broadband service of at least 30Mbps from any provider. It is not a blanket guarantee of funding.

The applicant controls the claim

The Welsh Government guidance says the applicant must apply and claims are made in arrears. Suppliers should help with technical detail, but should not present funding as automatic.

Technology still has to suit the site

Full fibre, fixed wireless, mobile broadband and satellite can all be right in different places. The useful first step is a site check: line of sight, mobile signal, duct routes, power, mounting points and expected monthly use.
